AMMUNITION TAKEN
DISTRIBUTED TO SCHOOLBOYS Endeavours are being made to recover a quantity of live ammunition which has been reported missing from a suburban home. Finding that 200 rounds of German ammunition which he had kept, as a souvenir from the last war had disappeared from his home, a South Dunedin resident made inquiries and discovered that his small son had gained access to the place where it was kept and had distributed it among his school friends. The police were notified as soon as the owner became aware of the position. The bfillets are suitable for use in a .303 rifle, and they are thought to be in the possession of schoolboys residing in the area between St. Clair and Caversnam. The police have emphasised the danger of such ammunition being in the hands of children.
