COAL SUPPLIES

PRODUCTION IN AUSTRALIA FAR BELOW REQUIREMENTS (Rec. 7 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 19. The Acting Prime Minister, Mr F. M. Forde, told miners in Western New South Wales that Australian coal production was short of consumption by 22.000 tons a week. He declared that failure to step-up coal production immediately would result in industrial chaos.* The miners present pledged themselves to maintain production at its maximum. They urged the Government to take stens to staff fully undermanned collieries, and asked for a more equitable system of taxation and an increase in the miners’ butter ration. Mr Forde promised the miners that the butter ration would be reviewed at the end of July.
