RABBI SOLOMON KATZ

(P.A.) WELLINGTON Feb. 11. The death occurred in Wellington .today of Rabbi Solomon Katz, minister to the Wellington Hebrew congregation, and the senior Jewish minister in New Zealand. Rabbi Katz was bom in 1884 near Kishinev, in Bessarabia, and held apS ointments in important churches in the nited States. He was widely respected for his learning, and was a fluent speaker, often addressing congregations of other denominations as well as sections of the community. He took a keen interest in world affairs, and strongly advocated the restoration of Palestine to the Jews. He was the official Jewish chaplain for the United States forces in New Zealand. In 1937 he received .the King George VI Coronation Medal. Rabbi Katz was married in 1904, his wife predeceasing him in September of last year. He leaves one daughter and three sons.
