The following quotations per 1001 b for beef and per lb for mutton and pigs are supplied, with a comparison with last week’s prices, by our special representative at yesterday’s Burnside stock sale:—

Fat Sheep.—The entry in this section numbered 1509. The bulk of the yarding was made up of poor quality ewes, with only a limited number of good pens. Wethers were also in short supply, and with the exception of a pen or two of fairly good sorts the balance were of poor quality. The market opened firm on late rates, and was maintained fairly evenly throughout, with an easing on the last race. Quotations: Prime heavy wethers, to 36s 6d; prime, 31s 6d to 33s 6d; medium, 27s 6d to 295; light, from 24s 6d; prime heavy ewes, to 30s; prime, 26s 6d to 295; medium, 22s 6d to 24s 6d; light, from 15s. Fat Lambs.—The number yarded was 565. Quality was lacking, most of the yarding being medium and poorly-finished sorts. Buyers were operating cautiously, and prices generally were easier by 2s to 3s a head on the last sale, at which there was a good inquiry for the Christmas trade. Quotations: Best quality, to 30s 6d; prime, 24s 6d to 27s 6d; medium, 22s to 23s 6d; light, from 20s. Pigs.—There was a small entry of baconers, the number offered being 65. Although the sale was a satisfactory one, prices barely maintained late rates. Quotations: Extra prime baconers, to £6 18s; prime, £5 14s to £6 4s; medium, £4 12s to £4 17s; light, from £4 10s. The entry of store pigs met with a poor demand, the sale being a dragging one throughout. Best slips realised from 26s to 28s, and good weaners 15s to 17s. Other classes had .little or no iquiry. Store Cattle. —It was an " off ” day in the store cattle section, but the yarding of vealers was a large one. The number offering was in excess of trade requirements, and prices were easier by fully 30s to 35s a head on late values. Best runners made from £9 to £lO 12s 6d; good quality vealers, £5 15s to £6 15s; medium, £4 to £4 12s; and light sorts from £3 ss.

Dairy Cows.—There was a fairly good inquiry for good-class cows, best sorts making from £lO 10s to £l2 12s 6d, and medium from £7 12s 6d to £8 15s.
