BATHS AT ST. KILDA

PROPOSAL DISCUSSED A meeting to discuss the proposal to build tepid, baths at St. Kilda was held last night in the St. Kilda Council Chambers. The Mayor of St. Kilda, Mr N. D. Anderson, presided. The meeting, which was called by the St. Kilda Beach Improvement Society, was attended by representatives of the St. Kilda Borough Council, the Swimming Centre, the Ocean Beach Domain Board, and the St. Kilda Life Saving Committee. Mr Anderson said that the proposal to build the baths, which would be on similar lines to those at St. Clair, was considered by the Beach Improvement Society three or four years ago, but had to be "shelved because of war conditions. “At that, time,” he said. “ the proposal was going to cost a very considerable sum—£ls,ooo. The time is now opportune to reconsider the whole matter and the scheme generally. It might not be found an easy matter, however, to raise money at the present time. Several speakers expressed the opinion that the scheme was a matter for the whole of Dunedin, as the baths would be a valuable asset to the city. It was s ated that the site proposed for the baths was the area between the pavilion and the lawn tennis courts.

After a discussion the following resolur tion was carried; “ That this meeting form a provisional committee for the purpose of furthering the project for tepid swimming baths at St. Kilda, with power to add or co-opt members.”
