NEW MENTAL HOSPITAL

ERECTION OF BUILDINGS NOT EARLIER THAN 12 MONTHS “I have very little to say regarding the reply by the Minister in Charge of Mental Hospitals, Mr A. H. Nordmeyer, to my criticism of certain conditions at the Seacliff Mental Hospital,” said the Rev. John C. Chisholm, who was formerly chaplain at Seacliff, in a statement yesterday. “My purpose has been attained, and the Minister admits the existence.... of certain defects in the' administration at Seacliff. and has set machinery in motion to remedy them.” The Presbytery of Dunedin and the Presbyterian Social Service Association wrote to Mr Nordmeyer in support of Mr Chisholm, asking him to make a considered reply to Mr Chisholm’s statements, and both organisations have received a reply from the Minister in which he refers them to his nublished statement. ' In his letter to the presbytery, Mr Nordmeyer stated that the plans for the new institution at Waikouaiti were in course of preparation, but it was not expected that it could be erected for at least 12 months.
