Warmer Weather.—Warmer weather has been experienced during the past week, but hard frosts are still being recorded. A good coating of snow remains on the mountains. Golf.—The following are the results of the weekly golf competitions:—Women’s Championship, first round: Mrs Harris 85, Mrs Anderson 85, Mrs G. Morris 91, Mrs Palmer 93, Mrs Halliday 94, Mrs Ewing 95, Mrs Morrow 102, Mrs Scaife 104, Mrs Scott 115, Miss Habner 117. Men’s Bogey Handicap: R. Scott all square, G. Morris 5 down, J. Perrow 6 down, C. Templeton 6 down. F. Codings 8 down, A. Wilson 8 down, F. Jackson, jun., 10 down. Lady Galway Guild.—At a recent meeting of the Wanaka branch of the Lady Galway Guild it was decided to pack the Christmas parcels for soldiers, approximately 35 in number, on Friday, September 17. Donations of biscuits, but not of cakes, will be acceptable. Suitable tins for packing, such as 71b syrup or honey tins, are also required, and helpers will be welcome.
