Rivers at Low Level.—The Clutha and Kawarau Rivers are at a low level as a result of the heavy frosts which have been experienced in the back country. Frosts of up to 40 degrees have been recorded every morning for the past seven weeks.

Rugby Football.—ln a football match at Clyde on Saturday, Cromwell defeated the home team by 16 points to 3 after a hard game. A match between Cromwell and Matakanui will be played at Matakanui next Saturday. „ Juvenile Concert.—A concert, arranged by the local juvenile concert party, was held on Saturday and was largely attended. The sum of £8 13s was realised, and will be devoted to the Red Cross funds. Establishment of Sale Yards,—ln connection with the establishment of sale yards at Cromwell the secretary (Mr G. M. Stewart), at the meeting of the Borough Council, advised that the permission of the health officer was being sought. A request that the registered office be situated at the Council Chambers was approved. The request for a site was also granted, subject to the approval of the council. Early History of District.—The Cromwell Borough Council has reported that it is endeavouring to preserve relics and other articles pertaining to the early history of Cromwell and the surrounding districts, and will appreciate any contribution towards the collection. A room at the Council Chambers is to be usad for the purpose of displaying the collection.
