Flax Workers’ Sports.—Workers from the Finegand Linen Flax Factory journeyed to Clydevale on Saturday last for an afternoon’s sports and an inspection of the mill. The girls played basketball at the High School grounds, and were then taken to the hostel for afternoon tea. Clydevale won the “ Clydegand ” Shield by 12 points to 5. At the end of the first spell in the football match Clydevale led by six points to nil. During the second spell G. Hutton put his team in the lead by kicking three penalty goals. Finegand thus won by nine points to six. At the dance in the evening the captain of the Clydevale basketball team was presented with the shield. Miss P. Middleditch spoke on behalf of the Finegand players and thanked the hostesses for their hospitality. The captain of the Clydevale football team (M. Sugrue) presented the “ Flaxfurly ” Shield to the Finegand team, for which G. Hutton suitably replied.
