HIGHER RATES FOR FAT STOCK (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH. Aug. 11. Both the fat cattle and fat sheep sections at the Addington market to-day were represented by good quality, and prices showed a rise on last week’s values. The wintry conditions affected the yarding of store sheep, and, except for some good linest of ewes, bidding was very dragging. In all other sections recent prices were maintained. Store Sheep.—The entry was 1940, compared with 2690 last week. Owing to the wintry conditions, competition was slow except for best-quality ewes in lamb. One station line of 260 young ewes In lamb to Southdown rams sold from 28s 9d to 34s 6d. Medium and inferior ewes were difficult to quit and sold as low as 9s 9d. Four pens of hoggets made from 11s to 19s 6d, according to size. A pen of six-tooth wethers made 275.

Fat Sheep.—There was an entry of 3800. compared with over 4000 last week. Prices in the early stages showed an advance of up to 2s a head on all classes, but with late arrivals swelling the entry there was a marked slackening off •'in the demand, and the increase mentioned was lost. The highest price for wethers was 53s lOd for a pen of nine two-tooths Other good sheep made up to 49s 7d. In the ewe section a line of 80 from Southland sold from 37s to 39s 7d, the latter figure being the best of the sale. Pigs.—There was a small entry of both porkers and baconers, and the quality was well up to standard Porkers were competed for at full schedule rates Choppers also sold well, but not up to the level of the National market last week. The entry of baconers was Insufficient for the demand. The average price was BJd to 9d per lb.
