INDUSTRIAL TRANSFERS
COMPENSATION FOR LOWER “ .' WAGES (F.0.P.R.) ' WELLINGTON, Aug. 10. Men and women transferred in industry to positions which involved their receiving a lower wage were now compensated, said the Prime Minister, Mr P. Fraser when . .replying to Opposition inquiries during the debate on the National Service Department Estimates in the House of Representatives to-night. In the case of men their wages could be made up by £2 a week to a maximum wage of £B. Girls could receive up to £1 a week. Applications bv such employees should be made to the district man-power officers. • The-Prime Minister said he hoped to be able to make a statement on the rehabilitation proposals before the House rose. He also said that the. appointment of a director of rehabilitation would be made at an early date. In reply to Opposition complaints that there was undue delay in releasing grade II men from the army, he said that about 10,000 had been released to industry since April last,’and about 2000 of these had gone to the farming industry.
