COLONEL KNOX’S MESSAGE

“IT SHALL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN ”

(Rec. 7 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Apl. 22. “Strike Hitler and Tojo’s nose bleeds,” declared the Secretary of the Navy, Colonel Frank Knox, broadcasting a message to New Zealand and Australia in connection with Anzac Day. Colohel Knox said: “The men who landed at Gallipoli 28 years ago hoped that the ultimate result of their action would be the destruction of Prussian militarism, but we were content when we thought the befest was whipped. It was lamed, but was permitted to recover and double its strength, ally itself with militaristic Italy and Japan, and come at us once more. “ It shall not happen again. We shall not make the same mistake together this time. The fraternity that is ours and our Allies shall see that the name Pacific is not a mockery. Together in our strength we shall keep that ocean pacific. “To the long list of battle honours won between the first Anzac Day and November 11, 1918,” Colonel Knox continued, “ there have been added actions from the sub-Arctic to the Mediterranean, in Africa and Asia, on land and sea and in the air. But the brightest inscriptions are yet to be written—the Battle of Berlin and the Battle of Tokio. To that end the fighting in every other quarter of the globe is a direct contribution.

“Victory in Africa will mean freeing the Mediterranean sea lane, and thus lopping off thousands of miles from the oceanic highways between the two hemispheres. It will provide another jaw to the pincers which will seize and tear Japan from our backs and destroy the Japanese militaristic monstrosity for all time. This is a global war, and victory in the remotest field of action is immediately translated into profit for our side on every front.”
