GOOD SALE FOR STORE LAMBS (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 27.

A large entry of store lambs from North Canterbury, South Canterbury, Marlborough, and North Otago met witn a goou saie at Addington to-day. Best lambs sold up to last week’s rates, ana medium and inferior advanced by Is a head. Last week's drop of 2os a heau in steer beef was recovered, and there was also a rise in the prices of cow and heifer beef. Fat wethers showed little change, but overfat and unfinished ewes were net in demand.

Store Lambs. —With the highest yarding of the season, 12,580, against 10,000 last season, store lambs from Marlborough to Otago were offered to keen competition. Best lambs sold at par with last week's rates. Medium and inferior grades showed* a rise of Is, with cull iambs especially sought after. Best lambs made 22s Id to 23s lOd; others, 18s Id to 21s Id; medium, 16s lOd to 17s lOd; inferior, 14s 6d to 16s 6d; culls, 9s 6d to 11s 6d. Store Sheep.—One pen of four, six, and eight-tooth ewes sold at 21s 7d to 22s 9d, older sheep 13s 6d to 15s 3d, and culls 5s 6d to 6s 3d. The majority of the wethers offered were four and six-tooth hill-country sheep. One line brought up to 20s lOd. The best price for two-tooths was 24s 4d; others, 21s to 22s 9d; older sheep, 15s to 16s sd. Fat Cattle.—Rising from 470 last week to 500, the fat cattle entry included several pens of extra good quality steers, for which there was a good demand by the trade. The market was exceptionally firm from the outset, and a drop of 25s a head last week was fully recovered for best steer beef. There was little change in other lines. Best beef 'made 44s to 46s per 1001 b; good average, 40s to 42s 6d; medium, 39s 6d; secondary, 375. Cow beef made down to 28s per 1001 b.

Fat Pigs.—There was a good demand on a short market. In the early sale prices were up 6s a head, but with late arrivals last week’s rates returned. Choppers were in medium supply, but there was a large bacon entry. Pork averaged 8d to 9d per lb, and bacon 7d to Bd.

Fat. Sheep.—There was a slight increase on last week's entry of 4000 fat sheep. The quality was good, with a larger proportion of wethers than recently. A keen demand existed for best quality, but there appeared to be a limit to butchers’ requirements at about the schedule price, Ewes met with a good sale, but ' over-conditioned and lightconditioned sheep were not in request. Freezing buyers operated only for lighter rwes. Prime heavy wethers made 35s to 375; tops, 40s Id; medium, 32s to 345; light, from ,245; prime ewes, to 275; prime medium. 20s to 235; ordinary, down to 10s.
