PARALYSED SINGER

AUSTRALIAN SOPRANO'S RADIO PERFORMANCE (Rec. 11 p.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 6. Miss Marjorie Lawrence, the Australian soprano, has resumed her professional career although she is still suffering from infantile paralysis of the legs, contracted 15 months ago. Miss Lawrence participated in a radio broadcast sitting in a wheel chair. She rendered Strauss' '' Devotion," "Annie Laurie." and " Waltzing Matilda." Her voice rang out full-throated and strong as she sang with the spirit of triumphant affirmation which marked her singing at the Metropolitan Opera House.

When she iiad finished the studio audience broke out in spontaneous applause, in which 45 accompanying musicians joined heartily. Mr Albert Spaulding, the violinist, introducing Miss Lawrence, praised her refusal to be beaten, adding that her courage had made her a symbol of victory. Miss Lawrence replied: " I cannot tell you what a thrill it is to be singing again."

Miss Lawrence, who received treatment from Sister Kenny, is now able to walk a few steps, and hopes for complete recovery.
