EXEMPTIONS FROM SERVICE The Dunedin Man-power CommitteeMessrs D. C. Cameron (chairman). C. V. Smith and W. R. Clarke—continued its sitting yesterday to consider applications for release from or postponement of military training. ' The following applications were dismissed:—Jensen Bros., for a shop hand; Wardells, Ltd., for a shop assistant (not to be called before July 31); J. Rattray and Son, for a ledger-keeper; C. F. Henry, a baker, on his own behalf; J. Sparrow and Sons, Ltd., for a turner; A. McLaren, for a foreman carpenter (not to be called before September 30); J. and T. Christie, Ltd., for a brass turner; Mrs J. McNamara. for transfer to a Dunedin camp. Applications for extensions of leave were dealt with as follows:—V. A. Dick, for a farm hand, extended to June 30; L. E. Cohen, an exporter, on his own behalf, extended to July 31; trustees in the estate of H. Anscombe, for an orchardist, four weeks' leave granted. Adjournments were granted as follows: Gough, Gough and Hamer, for a Diesel mechanic (sine die); E. Duff, for a coal merchant (to August 31); A. L. and C. Currie, Ltd., for an apprentice engineer (to September 30); W. C. Hendry, for a baker (to September 30); Leslie B. Neale, for a gardener (to September 30); J. Sparrow and Sons, Ltd., for a foreman boilermaker (sine die). On the application of J. Sparrow and Sons, Ltd., the release from camp of a boilermaker and two fitters was renewed until November 30. An apprentice trimmer, for whom Emslie and Flockton appealed, was made available for camp. On the application of J. and T. Christie, 'Ltd., a brass turner was released from camp, and a builder for whom W. B. Quennell and Sons appealed was also released from camp. The Director of National Service appealed for an assistant meat inspector, and the committee decided that the reservist should do his training from July to November.
