MAN-POWER COMMITTEE
APPEALS CONSIDERED The Dunedin Man-power Committee— Messrs D. C. Cameron (chairman), C. V. Smith, and D. Vorley—held a sitting yesterday, and dealt with applications for special consideration in respect to service with the armed forces. The following appeals were dismissed: — North British and Mercantile Insurance Company, Ltd. (employee), W. J. Christian, J. Brunton. In the last-named case, the applicant was granted an extra night of leave weekly. On the application of A. Morrison and Co. a furnaceman was released conditional on his joining the Home Guard. A similar decision was given in each of the following cases:—J. S. Skinner (as from March 7); G. Dyer and Co. (plumber); A. L. S. Cassle. McLeod Bros., Ltd. (works manager); Parker and Lawson, Ltd. (employee). E. J. Colson. Ltd. (manager); E. B. Cooper, and New Zealand Refrigerating Company, Ltd. (clerk), were each granted a week's leave, and on the application of Smith and Lousley, an accountant was released from March 20 to April 30.
An application by the Railways Department for the release of three employees was granted, and in respect of an application by the Otago and Southland Finance Corporation, on behalf of its manager, it was decided to recommend that the reservist should be posted to the base camp and allowed an extra day's leavei per week.
