SCHOOL OR HOSPITAL?

FATE OF MARLBOROUGH COLLEGE CONFERENCE AT BLENHEIM (P.A.) BLENHEIM, Feb. 4. A conference which will probably decide the fate of Marlborough College for the duration of the war will be held at Blenheim on Monday, when It Is understood the Minister of Health, Mr A, H. Nordmeyer, and the Director-general of Health, Dr M. H. Watt, will discuss with the Hospital Board and the College Board of Governors the difficulty which has arisen from the conversion of the new college building Into an emergency hospital. Some time ago the College Board agreed to the use of the building as a temporary hospital in the event of an emergency. During the past month the Hospital Board entered into more or less permanent occupation of the school, which it has equipped for hospital service. Yesterday. while the authorities argued over the question whether the building should revert to the college and become a hospital only when it was actually needed, 600 pupils assembled without a roof over their heads. Outdoor activities occupied the day, but because of rain to-day there was no school.

The local board agreed that the decision regarding the school's future was a matter for the Health and Education Departments.
