SAILORS’ REST
The executive of the Otago branch of the British Sailors’ Society held its first meeting for the year on Monday night. Many items of interest to sailors were discussed and improvements made by which they will benefit. The reports of both Dunedin and Port Chalmers missionaries showed that, although, there was less overseas shipping visiting the ports, the rests were still maintaining their purpose in providing a home away from home where willing workers were ready to give the men a warm welcome. A special tea was arranged at Christmas for members of the crew of an oversea vessel. To all those who had given donations of money and goods the committee expressed thanks. The meeting passed a motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mrs Margaret Adams, a keen worker in the interests of the Sailors’ Rest many years ago.
