ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
RUN OVER BY RAILCAR UNIDENTIFIED WOMAN KILLED (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 27. An unidentified woman was killed instantly between 10.15 and 10.30 p.m. yesterday on the railway line about a quarter of a mile south of Templeton, where she was run over by the rail-car travelling from Greymouth to Christchurch. There is no railway crossing at this point. Visibility at the time was reported to be good. The woman’s body, which was badly mangled, was brought by the rail-car from Templeton to Addington, and then taken by the St. John Ambulance to the Christchurch Public Hospital. FOUND UNCONSCIOUS
Found by the police in an unconscious condition in his motor car, a middle-aged man was admitted to the Hospital on Monday afternoon apparently suffering from gas-poisoning. In response to a telephone message received earlier in the afternoon, two detectives proceeded to Prospect Park, where they found the man lying on the back seat of his car overcome, evidently, by the fumes from the idling engine, which were entering the compartment through a length of rubber hose attached to the exhaust pipe The detectives immediately applied artificial respiration and succeeded in restoring the man to a degree of consciousness sufficient to allow his removal to Hospital. INQUEST ADJOURNED An inquest into the death of William Thomas Wilson, aged 73, who was admitted to the Hospital on December 4 following injuries received when he was struck by a motor car in Rattray street, and who died on Monday night, was opened yesterday at the Hospital, Mr H. J. Dixon, S.M., sitting as coroner. Sergeant O Carroll represented the police. Evidence of identification only was taken, and the inquiry was adjourned sine die.
