HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE
"PETER THE FIRST” A particularly fine Russian film, giving an insight-, into the. J(fe,, ift. the State in the eighteenth century, is being screened at present at His Majesty’s Theatre with a strong cast of principals. Entitled “ Peter the First,” the film gives a graphic pictorial description of tire life of the day, and shows how the Russians met the reforms and innovations introduced by the Czar Peter. Interwoven into this full-blooded fare is a more human touch from the life and personal tragedy of Peter himself. One of the most dramatic features of the film is depicted in the way in which the weak-willed Alexei, son of the Czar, turns against his father and sides with the reactionary faction. This film, which was given the highest award in the Paris Exhibition recently, has a long list of major characters, including the famous Catherine, the peasant girl whom Peter marries, and Menshikoi, the orphan who becomes- his counsellor. In support of the major attraction is an issue of the ’’ March of Time ’’ series. Box plans for the season are at the D.1.C., Jacobs’s, and the theatre.
