ART UNIONS
DISTRIBUTION OF PROFITS SUM OF £10,025 ALLOCATED (P.AJ WELLINGTON, June 14. Various charitable and philanthropic institutions are to' benefit by grants made by the Government amounting to £10,025 from the surplus profits of the £SOOO alluvial gold art unions conducted throughout each year. The grants range from £SO to. £IOOO, the institutions receiving the latter amount being the New Zealand Crippled Childrens' Society and the New Zealand Order of St. John. * Announcing the grants to-day. the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr W. E. Parry, said that although the heavy calls made on the people for patriotic donations no doubt affected the profits, the amount being raised by the art unions was sufficient to enable regular grants to be made to mayoral and kindred funds. The allocations of grants, continued the Minister, would give deserved help to institutions, the work of which covered a wide field of social activity in the Dominion.
