THE ROBIN MOOR
CONSUL’S REPORT ON SINKING U-BOAT RESPONSIBLE WASHINGTON, June 12. The State Department announced that a preliminary report from the American Consul at Pernambuco stated that the United States ship Robin Moor was undoubtedly sunk by a German submarine. Mr Sumner Welles said the commander of the submarine was fully aware that the Robin Moor was an American ship. The State Department said there seemed to be little hope for the 35 persons who are missing. All of the 11 survivors are in good health, in spite of being in a lifeboat for 19 days. Mr A* J. May, chairman of the House Military Affairs Committee, commenting on the Robin Moor, said: “We ought to convoy with battle fleets and let the shooting start.” Senator T. Connally characterised the sinking as an unjustified and unwarranted attack. He added: “Our Government will take appropriate measures to prevent a recurrence.” It is officially stated in Berlin that the Robin Moor case has not been cleared up, but it js certain that if a German warship was involved the commander observed international law. INDIGNATION AROUSED PROTEST SENT TO BERLIN (Rec. 11.30 p m.) LONDON, June 13.
