ALLIED ENTRY INTO MERJ IYUN EFFORTS TO PREVENT BLOODSHED (Rec. 2 a.m.) LONDON, June 13. The confirmation of the Allied entry into Merj lyun is reported by a correspondent who witnessed the action. For three days the forces did all in their power to prevent bloodshed. Envoy after envoy was sent under cover of a white flag in an endeavour to reach an agreement, but the French refused to do so, and within a few hours the British attacked, taking the town easily. The prisoners were mostly colonials, who said they did not want to fight, but were ordered to do so. They were quite friendly to the British, and said they would fight with them.
