ALEXANDRA Votes of Appreciation.—At the Alexandra Borough Council meeting on Mondav night the Mayor (Mr A. McKellar) referred to the excellent services rendered to the borough by the ex-Mayor, Mr W Bringans. Mr McKellar said that Mr Bringans had not spared himself in the service of the town during the 14 years he was Mayor. The town had prospered beyond recognition, and he moved that a minute of appreciation of Mr Bringans’s good work- be recorded. The Mayor also referred to the service rendered by Crs W. Hewett, T. G. Thow, A. E. Ellis, and A. C„ H.'Parsons, all of whorphad not sought re-election. The motion was carried unanimously. Obituary.—Mrs Elizabeth Naylor, aged 96, one, of the earliest pioneers of Central Otago, died at the residence of her daughter. Mrs L. L. Taylor-Cannon. on Saturday . evening. For many years Mrs Naylor and her husband, Mr George Naylor. who predeceased her, lived at Matakanui. where they brought up a large family. . Mrs Naylor was of a kindly and helpful disposition, and took an active part in all movements for the welfare of the district.-! She is survived by 92 descendants and by the following members of her family:—Mr Joseph Naylor (Matakaniii), Mr Ben Naylor (Nelson). Mr John Naylor (Lauder), Mrs C. Peake (Dunedin), -Mrs A. C. Murray (Christchurch). ;Mrs T. W. Holden (Clyde). Mrs T. MacKersey (Dunedin), and Mrs L. TaylorCannon (Alexandra). • . , Dairy Farmers Meet.—On Monday night Mr A. Taylor presided over, a large attendance of district farmers to consider a proposal to change from butter to cheese production. Addreses were given by Mr W. A. Bodkin. M.P., and Mrs L. J. Fraser, farm dairy instructor. Another meeting was arranged for ’June 16, when Mr J. Syron. dairy produce grader, Dunedin, will probably be the speaker. Home Guard.—There was a fair attendance at the Home Guard parade on Monday night. After physical drill. Regimental Sergeant-major J. T. Downes gave instruction in bayonet fighting, followed by a musketry course by Sergeant-jnajor P.-C. Haydock, and a talk on , prismatic compass- ' by Guardsman ;L, M. Prvor. ■ • ■ . . Personal.—Mr G. CLYDE Vincent County Council. —The first meeting of the new Vincent County Council was held on Thursday. Mr A .C. Secular was elected chairman and Mr W. D. Naylor deputy-chairman. Reference was made to the valuable services of the late chairman, Mr J. Ritchie, who 'filled the position for 20 years,- 17 continuously, and was for 30 years a member of the council. ■
