NEW GOVERNMENT BUILDING
Irregularity in the supply of materials has retarded progress on the Government’s Internal Marketing building in Auckland, which is Costing £IOO,OOO, but the work is now sufficiently advanced to indicate that the building will be completed, fully equipped and ready for use, in about four months’ time. All the heavy concreting has been finished except on the parapets, the covering of the floors with bitumen, and the tiling or insulating of the interior walls is proceeding, and refrigerating plant is being installed. Originally, it was expected that the building would be occupied in August, but war conditions, affecting particularly imported materials, have caused delay. It is stated that, although the need of the new premises will not be acutely felt until the production season approaches 1 its spring peak, its early completion would have afforded valuable relief to other cool stores in and. around the city in the storage of the heavy supplies of fruit, chiefly apples, which are held for sale in the next six months.
