LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

Opoho Branch.—Mrs W. Carson (vice-president) occupied the chair. The thought for the month, brought by Mrs Barron, was, “ Ideals are like the stars —we never reach them. But. like the mariner, we steer our way by them.” An appeal from the Patriotic Council that the Opoho branch should again organise the Gardens corner for the street day appeal on June 20 for the “ Comforts for Fighters ” Fund was responded to unanimously. Opportunity was taken to say farewell, prior to her departure for the North Island, to Mrs H. Lousley, past president and foundation member of the branch. As a tribute to the high esteem in which she was held. Mrs Whyte, on behalf of the branch, presented Mrs Lousley with a suitable gift, and Mrs F. Hinton made a presentation on behalf of the choir. Mrs Lousley suitably replied. The musical entertainment included vocal duets by Mesdames Carson and Hinton, and items by the choir, “In a Persian Market ” and " Tales from the Vienna Woods.” The sneaker for the evening was Dr A. Blanc, who gave an enlightening and instructive address on “ Medicine and Health,” dealing with the existent problems concerning different types of medicine, their analyses, and ultimate effect on the health. Mrs McKinlay voiced appreciation to Dr Blanc for his illuminating talk, and Mrs Hartley proposed a .hearty vote of thanks to the soloists' and the choir,
