OMAKAU

Golf.—A strong wind at the week-end made conditions difficult for golfers. In the Beattie Rose Bowl contest, the winner was Mrs Butcher with a net score of 153 for the 18 holes, other good scores being Miss B. Butcher 154, Miss T. Alexander 159, Mrs Wallington 163, Mrs Scorgie 166. The following is the draw for a oneclub match next Saturday:—Mrs Wallington v. Mrs Naylor, Mrs Lucas v. Mrs Butcher, Miss B. Butcher v. Miss T. Alexander, Mrs Read v. Mrs Seddon, Mrs Ingram v. Miss J. Harvey, Mrs Alpine v. Mrs Wilson, Mrs Scoular v. Mrs Scorgie, Miss C. Harvey v. Mrs Oaten. The men played the second round of the Caldwell Cup, the best cards returned being: R. Seddon 106—30—76, A. Alexander 101— 24—77. J. H. Ingram 101—22—79. These three players drew for the two rounds with a net 151, and will play off next Saturday over 18 holes. In a challenge match for the Perkins Gold Button, J. H. Ingram, by defeating P. Rugby Football.—Fixtures under the auspices of the Vincent Rugby will commence on Saturday. The only senior teams that have entered the draw for the first matches are: Matakanul v. Alexandra, at Alexandra; Wanaka v. Cromwell, at Cromwell. In the Junior Grade, Alexandra meets Matakanui, at Omakau, and Clyde plays Bannockburn on the Bannockburn ground. Soldiers' Function.—A largely attended social function was held in the Omakau Hall on Monday evening, when the guest of honour was Private Lloyd Leask, a son of the well-known local residents. Mr and Mrs S. Leask. During an interval Mr James Stafford, on behalf of the committee, made a presentation to Private Leask, and extended good wishes from the residents of the district. Mr E. Mawhinney also spoke on behalf of the local branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association.

Home Guard.—A half-day parade was held on Saturday, when there was a muster of over 60 members of the Omakau Company of the Home Guard. Rifle drill and company drill occupied the afternoon.

The Weather.—Very mild weather la being experienced at Omakau, conditions being more like spring than the approach of winter. With the recent warm winds the mountains are now clear of snow.
