SUNDAY TENNIS AT THE UNIVERSITY

TO THE EDITOR

Sir, —That Dunedin, the home of the wily Scot, of the Dominion’s head University. and possessed of a tropical climate in springtime, should also become famed for religious intolerance and bigotry, would indeed be disastrous. Yet such may be its fate if public opinion—so unjustifiably used by the University Council as an excuse for its recent high-handed action —does not support the students of the University in their plea for Sunday tennis. Shall it be said of us that we find it easier to fight for democracy' and freedom against oppression and intolerance on the field of battle, in the air. and on the sea. than we find it to live up to these principles and apply them at home? No, not if I know the spirit of this Edinburgh of the south. —I am, etc.. Hotscotch.
