PATRIOTIC COMMUNITY SING
FUNCTION IN ST. JAMES THEATRE A community sing which has been organised by the Publicity Committee of the Otago Provincial Patriotic Council will be held in the St. James Theatre at 12 p.m. on Tuesday. The proceeds will be used for providing comforts for soldiers in camp, on the troopship, overseas, as well as for the sick and disabled on their return to civilian life. The arrangements have been carefully carried out. Dunedin’s song leaders, including Jimmy McFarlane, “ Spud ” Murphy, and Mr Himburg, will take part in the sing, George Thorne and Alt' Pettit will be the pianists, and an accordion band will also assist. Several members of “ Switzerland ” have offered their services and they will appear on the stage. A “Diggers’ auction” will be held and a £lO note, a fireside chair, a vacuum cleaner, a live pig. and the largest box of chocolates ever packed in New Zealand will be among the articles to be put “ under the hammer.” “ Cheerios ” will be broadcast, but as the primary object of the sing is to build up the Otago Patriotic Fund preference will be given to those ‘ cheerios ” accompanied by a donation to the funds. All “ cheerios ” should be addressed to “ The Song Leader ” at Station 4ZB.
