UNIVERSITY ACTIVITIES

Easter Tournament To-day the interimiversity tournament, for which the Otago University team left on Thursday, will be commenced. Each year representatives of Auckland, Canterbury, Victoria end Otago Colleges meet at one of the main centres to compete in seven different types of sport—athletics, basketball, boxing, rowing, shooting, swimming (men and women) and lawn tennis (men end women). Lincoln Agricultural College competitors are included in the Canterbury University team, and the Victoria team is selected partly from Massey Agricultural College. Shields are awarded in each event, and the team which scores the largest number of points wins the tournament. This was won last year by Otago, and it also holds the shields for athletics, swimming, boxing, rowing and shooting. This year's representatives form a strong team. Ladders for the coming season of the Badminton Club have been prepared and will be left open till further notice. Two teams have to be chosen from the University for the Otago Badminton Association championships. Every Monday will be club night, and the annual meeting is to take place on Thursday. It is proposed to form a section for those interested in playing table tennis.

Evangelical Union A graphic account of his experiences in war-torn China was given by Mr H. H. E. Knight at the E.U. meeting last Sunday. He described the important place which the Chinese student plays in the affairs of the country. The speaker also gave an account of

one of the most destructive air-raids of modern times. An excursion to Double Hill arid Seacliff Dam will take place next Sunday. The committee has drawn up the list of tramps to be undertaken weekly during this term. It; is expected that there will be a large number 'of students interested in these activities, and all who have not already 'done so are asked to hand in their names to the committee. Capping

Items for the 'Capping procession are now being registered at the Students' Association office and with the convener (Mr W. R. Aitchison). The Capping Book this year is being edited by Miss C. Passmore. Prizes are being offered for all artistic contributions accepted, and for the best articles and cover design. Capping, this year, in spite of unfavourable conditions, is expected to be "bigger and brighter than ever." The Capping controller is this year Mr V. T. Pearse.
