QUEENSTOWN

Badminton The presentation of cups won during the past badminton season took place at a social evening in Queenstown on Thursday. The winners were as follows: Petterson Cup (Ladles’ Singles), Mrs A. Landrebe; Cockburn Cup (Mens Singles), C Nelson; Anonymous Cup (B Grade), Miss A. Calder; Miniature Cup (Ladles Doubles), Misses L. Edwards and B, Jarrant; Men’s Doubles. D. Brown and J. Hall; Mixed Doubles, Miss L. Edwards and C Nelson. Lawn Tennis Ideal weather prevailed for the official opening of the Queenstown Lawn Tennis Club on Wednesday afternoon. Representatives of the Arrowtown Club were welcomed by Dr W. A. Anderson, president of the local club. Valedictory Prior to their departure for Burnham camp, Private D. Brown and Messrs G. McLellan. W. E. Birse, and V. Gibson were tendered a farewell and presentation on Wednesday evening. A large number of well-wishers attendee the function, which was arranged by the Territorial Association Dr WA. Anderson. Messrs C M. Inglis, A Landrebe, J H Robertson. Winter. H. London, and Lieutenant W Stewart spoke appreciatively of the men who had volunteered for service. The respective guests of honour briefly acknowledged the gifts and -■xpressions of goodwill Personal Mrs T. J. Wilson is visiting Dunedin, Mrs F. Fraser, of Invercargill, is staying in Queenstown as the guest of Misses I and B. Ingles. Mrs J W. Sinclair Is the guest of her mother. Mrs McCormick, of Closeburn Station. „ Mr D F Sutherland is visiting Dunedin. Fathers Woods (Riversdale), Walsh (Gore), and Twomey (Dunedin) have been staving in Queenstown. Mr and Mrs T Hoskins, of Port Chalmers. are the guests of their daughter. Mrs A E Short. Miss B Humphreys, of Invercargill is visiting Queenstown. Mr Williams, of Invercargill, has been spending a holdlay as the guest of Mr R Hunter, of Wharehuanui. Mr E Rodgers, of Timaru. has been visiting Queenstown. Mrs M Sutherland and Miss Manson of Invercargill are spending a holiday in Queenstown. Messrs D, Brown and G McLellan left on Thursday morning for Burnham.
