BALCLUTHA Clay Bird Shooting Fine weather prevailed on Saturday for the South Otago Gun Club’s meeting on the club’s grounds at North Balclutha. The principal event of the afternoon was the Club Championship Cup (21 birds, all contestants to shoot off 16yds). In reply to a letter from the Otago Cricket Association It was decided to send a team to take part in " Country Week ” at Dunedin In November. In regard to hours of match play, it was decided to fix the hours of play from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. October 21 was agreed upon as the opening day for the association fixtures. MILTON Personal Mr Crichton Gr Palish, who has been assistant at the C.C. Stores during the past six years, has been appointed manager of the Central Stores at Ranfurly and will leave to take up his new appointment this week. With Mrs Grealish he has been tendered several farewell functions during the past week, one of the principal of these being tendered by the Ambassadors’ Dance Band, of which he has been a prominent member for some years, at the residence of Mr and Mrs Jas. Field, Union street. Community singing and supper helped to pass the evening and the departing member was presented with an electric water jug. Prior to closing time on Saturday Mr Grealish was made a presentation by the manager of the C.C. Stores. Golf Notes In the final of the Senior Men’s Championship of the Toko Golf Club D. J. Sumpter’s better short work won him the title from C. H. Hitchon, 8 up and 7, to play. In the final against Mrs W George, Mrs A. F. Wethey played par golf to emerge the winner of the Senior Ladies’ Championship, the game finishing with Mrs Wethey 8 up and 7 to play. W. Shaw beat S. J. Ottrey In the semifinal of the Junior Men’s Championship, and will now meet J. B Gray to decide the title. Miss R. Wilson defeated Mrs J R. Wilson In the final of the Junior Ladles’ Championship after an interesting match Delightful weather prevailed on Saturday for the match between teams from the Toko and Kaltangata Clubs, played Tn the local links. An enjovable match between teams of seven ladles and 12 men from each club resulted In a win for the home team. ~ • Church Anniversary The eighty-fifth anniversary of the establishment of the Presbyterian Church In Tokomairlro and the fiftieth anniversary of the present church building were celebrated yesterday with special services, the speaker In the morning and evening being the Rev. George Miller, a former minister of the parish. Special music was rendered by the choir, and there were large congregations at both services. The anniversary congregational social will be held this evening, when addresses will be delivered by the Rev. Mr Miller and the Rev. John Pringle, who Is also a former minister. Cricket The annual match between the married and single members of the Milton Cricket Club was played on Saturday, a good muster of players being present. Batting first, the “ Married ” team scored 75 runs, towards which H. Heads contributed 40 and J. Vidal 15. In reply, the Single team was dismissed for 119, Cottenll (a married substitute) batting confidently to score 65 before he was caught.
