PROFITS FROM ART UNION GRANTS, LOANS AND GUARANTEES TOTAL DISTRIBUTION OF £10.665 (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Aug. 13. Grants, loans and guarantees totalling £10,665 from the profits on the Centennial Sports Art Union have been approved by the Government, according to an announcement made yesterday by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr W. E. Parry). The distribution will be made in accordance with the recommendations of the trustees appointed to administer the funds. The total profit from the art union, the object of which was to finance the centennial year fixtures, was £11.200. Mr Parry said that the grants totalled £4515, loans £3llO and guarantees £3040. He still had under consideration a numb.er of late applications which would be met from the balance remaining. It was obvious that after the centennial sports period there would be considerable sums of money in hand from the returns of loans and from guarantees not required. That money would be distributed by way of grants after consideration by the National Council of Physical Welfare Recreation for permanent improvements to sports grounds and added facilities. "Most of the grants, loans and guarantees are in respect of the Dominion championships of 1940 and the centennial games," said Mr Parry. " The whole of New Zealand will, however, benefit, since the grants and loans in particular will facilitate participation in the Dominion championships and the centennial games bv competitors throughout the Dominion."
