HIGHLAND DANCING
SUCCESSFUL COMPETITION Another successful Highland dancing competition was conducted on Saturday evening by the Otago Centre of the Piping and Dancing Association. There were large entries in all events and the attendance of the public was encouraging. During the evening, the president (Mr Albert Wheeler) took the opportunity of thanking the public and competitors for their support, specially thanking Mr Warnock, of Milburn. for bringing so many South Otago competitors to the competition. The president stated that Dunedin competitors and friends would return the visit when the competition was held at Milton on September 9. The judge of the dancing was Miss Iris Gordon, and the official pipers were Messrs Angus MacMillan and K. Christiansen. The following were the results:— Highland Fling, under 12 (18 entries)— Isobel Gray 1, Daphne Baxter 2; Seann triubhais (novice), under 12 (5 entries) —Maureen Bishop 1, Shirley Stewart 2; Highland fling (novice), under 10 (10 entries)—Maureen Bishop 1, Maureen Tobin 2; seann triubhais. under 15 (17 entries)—Norma Stewart 1, Jack Miller 2: Irish jig. under 15 (14 entries)— Jessie Brown 1. Jack Miller 2; sword dance, under 10 (16 entries)—lsobel Gray 1. Daphne Baxter 2.
