BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS

THE SCHEME IN BRITAIN HUGE NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, Aug. 12. (Received Aug. 13, at 7 p.m.) Within a month of the inception of the national emergency blood transfusion scheme the first 100,000 volunteers had been registered and listed. An official said the first line of defence against death in air raids had been established. London, he said, was divided into 10 sectors for the purpose of compiling a register, and in several of these the quota, varying from 6000 to 10,000, had been exceeded, and the authorities were now registering reserves. Nearly half the volunteers have "universal" blood in category O, which is most useful for general transfusions.
