“MUSCENA”
BRIGHT ENTERTAINMENT The pupils of the King Edward Technical College gave their second presentation of “ Muscena ” in His Majesty’s Theatre last night. Conceived and produced by Mr Gordon Tovey. with the scenery and costumes all made by the staff and students of the college, “ Muscena ” is an ambitious production, but, in spite of the natural handicaps to be met with in a show which features children only, the whole presentation is admirably done. The seven scenes of “ Muscena ” are notable for their picturesque and bright costumes, shown off to the best advantage by animated movement, and their outstanding backgrounds, the work of the staff and pupils of the Art School. There is no speaking in any of the scenes, the young actors and actresses conveying the different stories told by means of mime, but the general effect created is unusual. The seven humorous interludes or sketches are in the hands, chiefly, of Joan Delaney and Vernon Scott, both of whom acquit themselves with distinction. The musical side of the production is controlled by Dr T. Vernon Griffiths, under whose capable baton is a school orchestra of over 50 players. “Muscena” will be repeated to-night and to-morrow night, with a matinee to-morrow afternoon.
