MANCHESTER UNITY

The meeting of Loyal Centenary Lodge was presided over by N.G. Bro. F. Carruthers. The officers of this lodge are taking a keen interest in the Efficiency Shield competition, and have so far made a good showing. Notifications of coming events of interest were received from the Prov. C.S. Members were reminded of the official visit to Loyal Dunedin. Sister lodges were cordially invited to, attend the next meeting of the lodge, when the entertainment of members will be catered for by P.G.S. Bros. Jones and Norman. Proceedings at the fortnightly meeting of Loyal Caversham Lodge were conducted in mourning in respect to the memory of the late Bro Grigg. who had been a member for some 42 years. Members stood in silence while a motion of sympathy with his relatives was carried. The official visit to Loyal Palmerston Lodge was fixed for August 26. P.G. Bro. Isaac will be in charge of transport arrangements, and 25 members of the lodge have signified their intention of being in attendance. Next lodge night, a popular dance will be held. During the, recess a card tournament was conducted by P.S Bro List and Treasurer Bro. Rennie, trophies being awarded to Bros. S Wright, Taylor and Lennan. The fifty-sixth anniversary of the Loyal Valley Lodge was celebrated on Monday evening under the guidance of N.G. Bro. McFarlane. who was supported on the right by Prov. D.G.M Bro. H. Masters. Prov. C.S. Bro. A., Sligo, and I.P.P.G.M. Bro. W. Sellar, and on the left by P.G. Bro, Frederick

Millier, the only original member of ;the lodge. The function was well attended by veteran members and past officers of the lodge. . The toast of the “District Executive” was proposed by P.G. Bro. George Macdonald; that of the visiting lodges by P.G. Bro. J. Swan; “Absent Brethren" hy-P.S. Bro. A W. Palmer, and “ Pioneer Members ” by P.P.G.M. Bro. C. H. Russell. Particular reference was made to Bro. Millier’s splendid record of service in the interest of his lodge and Order. Bro. Millier, in reply, thanked members, for their kindly thought, and entertained the gathering with personal anecdotes. The lighter side was catered for by an orchestra under the direction of P.G. Bro. J. Mitchell. Songs by P.G. Bro. W. Rosevear. Messrs T. Bachop and J. Gordon, and acceptable violin solos by Mr Johnston. The meeting was reminded of the mock district meeting to be held next lodge night.!' Fifteen members of the Otago Past Grands’ Lodge journeyed to Palmerston on Tuesday evening for the purpose of conducting the meeting of the local lodge. The attendance of visiting brethren was augmented by representatives of Loyal. Star of the North, Oamaru. Dunback. Prince Alfred. Band of Friendship, Valley Prince of Wales Albion. Caversham, and Dunedin Lodges. P.G. Bro, S. McLaren controlled proceedings, assisted by P.G’s Bros J. Swan. W, J. Hutton, Lilburn Lyon, sen, and jun., and P.P.G.M. Bro Lawry. P.P.G-M.’s Bros. J.ohnston, Cameron and Russell were also in attendance. A demonstration of the proposed ritual was given by the initiation of a dummy candidate, and business of vital interest to the Order discussed, after which a social hour was. spent in harmony.
