AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP STEWART MAKES 106 BREAK A large attendance witnessed the first semi-final game in the ptago amateur billiards championship at the R.S.A. Club last evening. The contestants were E. N. Stewart, the holder of the title, and J. P.earce. and each gave a fine display. Pearce was the first to find touch with a nicely-played 39 break, and at the twentieth visit w ai leading by 211-125 but at the twenty-fourth cue Stewart made a fiO break', and two strokes later he made 53. Pearce responded with a 56 break, and at the forty-second visit followed with a well-played 64. The scores at this stage read: Stewart 436. Pearce 365 but at the fifty-first cue Stewart compiled a magnificent 106 break, mostlv off the red ball. Scoring steadily, he finally ran out the winner the scoriss being: Stewart 666 Pearce 818 Stewart scored breaks of 106. 60. ,58. 41, 37. arid 30. and Pearce of 65. 56 39. 39. 35. and 34. A. Bowie will meet C. Mason on Saturday evening, and the finals will be played on Monday and Tuesday.
