COUNTRY WOMEN MEET

DIVISION’S ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Nearly 100 delegates attended the annual meeting and provincial conference of the Otago Council of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union in Jubilee Hall yesterday. The “ women's parliament ” had a lengthy but enjoyable all-day session. Mrs W. Elliott, the retiring president, extended a welcome to delegates, and, after an inspiring presidential address, vacated the chair in favour of Mrs W. Annan (Clyde) Varied topics were discussed, but as well os the business part of the meeting the social side was greatly enjoyed. Reference to the great services rendered by Mrs Elliott as president during the past two years was made by Mrs Crawford Anderson, and a vole of thanks, together with musical honours, was accorded her. Later in the day Mrs W. J, McKenzie made the presentation of a beautiful silver fruit dish to Mrs Elliott and thanked her for everything she had done for the division. Mrs Elliott thanked the delegates for their gift and expressed the hope that she would not be forgotten and that she would always retain the friendship of members throughout the province.

Posies were presented to Mrs Annan. Mrs Elliott, and Miss H. F Borrie (secretary) by Mesdames J. M. Charles, Anderson, and A. Allison respectively. After the serving of afternoon tea by members of the Dunedin branch, an address on European affairs was given by Mrs Peter Milne and a talk on the women’s Centennial memorial to pioneer women by Dr Siedeberg McKinnon,
