WINTER FLOWER SHOW WEALTH OF BLOOM The many members and friends who visited the Otago Women’s Club on the occasion of the Gardening Circle’s flower show on Friday afternoon were well repaid for their visit. In the lounge attention was arrested by the beautiful display on the stage, which had been tastefully decorated with bronze and red chrysanthemums, intermingled with tinted foliage and red berries. In the centre was a basket of fruit decorated with vine leaves and coloured foliage. The various exhibits had been set up by the circle members.

One could not fail to admire the

wealth of bloom, which, in spite of the unfavourable season, characterised the whole display. Three pretty decorated small bowls done in sand, a basket of vine leaves, two bowls of everlasting flowers, and a vase of dried larkspur were all greatly admired. Although chrysanthemums predominated. many others flowers were to be seen among the exhibits, including carnations, cornflower, freesias, ericas., sweet peas, godetia, antirrhinum, larkspur, lilies, tree marigold, mignonette, flowering gum, ursinia, poppies, pansies, salvia, statice, stock, polyanthus, St. John’s wort, hydrangeas, fuchsia, rhododendron, lapageria, flowering apples, cratasgus, holly, maple, spirea, spindle tree, berberis, red oak, cotoneaster, and birch. These had been sent in by the following members:—
