AMAZING MACHINE
CREATES “ HUMAN ” SPEECH TEST BEFORE SCIENTISTS PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 6. An amazing machine which creates “ human ” speech was demonstrated to amazed scientists by engineers in the Bell telephone laboratories. A dexterous operator manipulating 11 kays and a foot pedal makes the device sing or speak in any inflection and in any language or reproduce animal sounds. Controlled electrical oscillating circuits produce the voice of a man, woman, or child. It requires about 18 months to learn the operating technique.
