PRESIDENT’S ADDRESS
APPROVAL OF SENTIMENT BRITISH UNANIMITY (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, Jan. 6. The press warmly welcomes Mr Chamberlain’s statement endorsing President Roosevelt’s message. The diplomatic correspondent of The Times says: “The announcement may be said to be the culminating point of British unanimity in approving of the general sentiments of the President’s address, in so far as they referred to the outlook on foreign affairs.” The Daily Telegraph says: “Mr Chamberlain’s welcome to President Roosevelt’s sentiments as * yet another indication of the vital role of American democracy in world affairs and its devotion to the ideal of ordered human progress ’ is a judgment which will be cordially endorsed wherever peace and freedom are cherished in the hearts of men.” ITALIAN PRESS COMMENT ROME, Jan. 6. The press, commenting on President Roosevelt, says his object is to support the heavy industries by rearmament and also to favour Jewish anti-Fascism.
