COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS
ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL REPORT
The annual report of the Commercial Travellers' and Warehousemen's Association of Otago, which will be presented at the annual meeting on February 3, states, inter alia:— The financial members' roll on November 30 last stood as follows: Association, 394, as against 370 last year; club, 266, as against 242 last year. In last year's report, mention was made that the association had regained most of the leeway which occurred during the depression period. The results of this year show that the 'position has been maintained: in fact, the leeway has now almost disappeared. This has not been easy, and reflects great credit on the work of the House Committee and the manager and his staff; It is doubtful, if ever before, that the business community has been faced with such a period of rising costs, necessitating constant vigilance at all times in order to adapt policies to meet changing conditions. It is felt that the result of the year under review dearly shows that the association has held its own. The committee regrets to record the deaths of nine association members:—H. E. Clark, F. W. Barfield, George Hay. E. Abbey Jones, Charles McKay, R. Mcßeath, B. T. Ringer. F. W. G. Rudkin and W. 0. Smellie. The following club members also died during the year:—F. Carter, James Goodger. S. W. Geddes, George' Gibson, J. A. Mathewson, W. C. Ruffell, W. G. Rossiter. This year the sum of £292 19s has been credited to the mortuary benefit fund from members' subscriptions, which has been allocated in the proportions of 5s to capital account and 10s 6d to dividend account. As 'it is estimated that a further £250 may be required to provide for ensuing years' expected mortality. that amount has been transferred from '. reserve account, which brings the Capital account to £9765 . lis, with £448 9s at credit of dividend account, and £7ll 10s 5d at credit of reserve account. The total worth of the mortuarv fund is £11,675 10s sd. The takings in the club for the year amounted to £7689 4s 7d. yielding a sross profit of £2711 17s 3d, as against £7348 12s 2d, yielding a gross profit of £2627 10s lOd for the previous year. The percentage on the return is also, satisfactory, being 35.27 as compared with 35.75 last year. The dining room revenue for the year amounted to £1.393 Is. yielding a gross profit of £232 15s sd. as against £1366 4 S 9d, yielding a gross profit of £217 6s Id for the previous year.
