BRIGADE NOTES Milton Divisions The annual ’meeting of the Milton Ambulance and Nursing Divisions was held recently, Ambulance Officer R Hay presiding. .. • The annual report stated, inter alia. "Both divisions’held their first meeting on February 8, when there was a full attendance of members. The officers welcomed new members, and expressed the hope that they would take an active part in. the great work of St. John. Fortnightly practices have been held throughout the year, and the attendance has been exception ally good. Miss E. N. Fhgg and Mr L Fagg resigned from the divisions owing to removal from the district, and their resignations were accepted with regret. “A social was held on; May 18, when an enjoyable evening was spent. An official visit was paid by the officers of the district and corps staff. After delivering interesting addresses they gave personal instruction in roller and triangular bandaging. ■ “A first-aid class was started on May 24 under the direction of Ambulance Officer R. Hay, assisted by Corporal Fagg, Private W. Fagg.; and W. H Wells, Dr Edgar delivered the lectures. The class started with a membership of 17, 10 joining the division “ The home nursing class, was started on June 14 under the leadership of Lady Ambulance Officer i Mrs W. H Wells, assisted by Ambulance Sisters Mesdames Faylor and Beddsmore and Miss Little. The lectures; were given by Dr Mirams. i “The examinatldns wene held on July 12, the examiners beiiig Dr Edgar and Dr Mirams. The results were very gratifying, all members having gained a high percentage df marks. “During the year nine first-aid certificates, six medallions, {wo home nursing certificates, and.sej/en labels were presented. Lectures were delivered by Dr Edgar on ‘Airraids and Gas Attacks’ and by Traffic Inspector Hunter (Balclutha) on Rules of the Road.’ '■■';!• • ; “ The annual social for the* purpose of presenting the honours gained during the year was held on September 29. A large number of friend's of the divisions attended the social,'as well as a large number from the puned'O divisions, including the assistant commissioner, Mr W, D. PirretL arid several district and corps officers. The function was opened with an address from the divisional surgeon' Dr Edgar, who congratulated the ’successful members on gaining their certificates, and expressed the hope tS)at more members would join up nexLyeaii 1 “ During the year visits Wave been interchanged with the' Hillside , and Dunedin Ambulance Divisions. “ Members of both divisions have attended the football and , hotkey matches during the year, and oven- 60 cases of first aid were attended to; on public duty.” The Mayor, Mr Mawson. and Mr Wilson congratulated the division .on the excellent work carried out during the year, and wished the divisions every success in the coming year, hoping that more people would take advantage of the opportunity of taking par’ in such noble work. A- presentation of a crystal vase in recognition of her work for the Milton Nursing Division, was made to Lady* Ambulance Officer Mrs W. H. Wells at the conclusion of the meeting. Mrs; Beardsmore made the presentation on behalf or the members, and Mrs Wells suitably replied. Kaikorai Ambulance Division Recently the members of the Kaikorai Division had their annual reexamination. The work was of a high standard, and all members passed. 'lc bring the year's activities to a close an enjoyable evening was held at the residence of the superintendent Mr R. Arnott. A vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Arnott by those present for makilng such* an enjoyable evening possible. Amongst those present were Messrs T. C. Doherty. P. Sloan. G Simpson, J. Conway. V. Thompson. L. Thompson, A. Seddon. J. Butler, and Ambulance Drivers W. Black and J. Wilson.
