MANUHERIKA RIVER
ACCESS TO DOWNS SETTLEMENT NEW BRIDGE TO BE BUILT In a reference in the Daily Times on December 19 to the need for a bridge over the Manuherikia River near Becks, it was stated that the Minister of Public Works (Mr R. Semple) had discussed the question of a subsidy with the Vincent County Council. This wa6 an inadvertent error as the locality is beyond the boundary of the Vincent County The Minister, however, had discussed the matter with the Maniototo County Council.
The clerk the Maniototo County told a Daily Times reporter yesterday that an ; agreement had teen reached with the Public Works Department whereby the coui. would contribute a sum of £6OO towards the cost and the Government would build the bridge. Furthermore, the county this week received authority from the Local Body Loans Board to raise a loan of £2650 for necessary works, and it was proposed to make the Manuherikia bridge contribution’s first charge on that loan. The ratepayers will be asked to vote on the loan proposal, and if it is carried the bridge will be erected as soon possible.
