TOWN PLANNING
SCHEME FOR CHRISTCHURCH FAR-REACHING RESULTS (Pkb United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH. Dec. 20. A conference aimed at reaching finality on the city’s long-delayed town-planning scheme will be held in Christchurch early in the New Year. After more than two years of negotiations between the town-planning authorities of the Government and the Christchurch City Council, it now appears' that the remaining differences will be overcome, according to City Council officials, when representatives of the State and the council meet, probably in January. The adoption of the plan will have far-reaching results in the future layout of the city residential and industrial areas. Details of its provisions are confidential at the moment, and will be confidential until the final plan is prepared, but all other local authorities in the Dominion are vitally interested in the scheme, since it will be the first adopted in the Dominion by any major centre, and thus will probably act as a model plan for other cities and tourist resorts.
