DESTRUCTION OF PESTS
MENACE TO NATIVE GAME THE GOVERNMENT’S CAMPAIGN CO-OPERATION OF GAME CLUBS SOUGHT (Special to Daily Times) AUCKLAND, Dec. 20. The hope that acclimatisation societies and game clubs throughout the Dominion would give material assistance towards the campaign of the Government for the extermination of vermin and other pests which prey upon native and game birds was expressed by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr W. E. Parry). He said that such societies could do much to keep down the spread of stoats, weasels, rats and hawks, all of which had voracious appetities for pheasants, ducks and other birds. “ Some of the societies,” said Mr Parry. “ are advocating increased licence fees for the shooting of game birds. There gre many prominent sportsmen with a full knowledge of the trouble and expense of rearing birds who agree with me that the societies should put their weight into the work for the destruction of pests.”
