Ministerial The Postmaster-general and Minister of Defence (Mr F. Jones) performed the official opening on Saturday night of the new Security Hall which has been erected in King Edward street for the Dunedin South branch of the Labour Party. This morning the Minister will leave by the second express for the north. Mr William Burton, general manager of Fullers' Theatre Corporation, and Mr James Stewart, a director, pasred through Dunedin en route for Wellington by the second express from Invercargill on Saturday. Reference to the recent death of Mr F. W. Venn was made by the president (Mr S. Devereux) at a meeting of the executive of the Dunedin Bowling Centre on Saturday night. The customary tribute was paid by members.

Citizens of Tauranga gathered on Friday to pay tribute to Mr C. H. Burnett, member for Tauranga in the last Parliament. The Mayor (Mr D. A. Wilkinson) presided, and in an address expressed the town's appreciation of the excellent services rendered by Mr Burnett during his term as member for the district. Messrs G. H. Mends (chairman of the County Council), A. J. Mirrilees (chairman of the Harbour Board), C. J. West (chair-, man of the Mount Maunganui Town Board), and F. W. Doidge, M.P. for Tauranga. also spoke of the enthusiasm Mr Burnett had shown in working for the good of his electorate. The Mayor then presented him with 4 cheque for lOOgns arid Mrs Burnett with a silver tea service.

Northbound passengers per the Union Airways liner on Saturday morning were Messrs E. McSherry and E. G. Carter for ChrLstchurch, Captain G. W. Evans, Messrs J. C. Cotton, W. Hindle, and Mrs C. Coatls for Wellington, Mrs B. Renwick and Miss J. Smith for Palmerston North, Mr R. A. Billows for New Plymouth, and Miss K. Spence for Napier. Soutnbound passenrers who arrived on Saturday afternoon included Mr R. English from Auckland, Mr T. Patton from Palmerston North, and Mr W. Feeney from Gisborne. Northbound passengers yesterday morning were Messrs H. D. A eland, W. ... Stevenson, J. L. Whitson, L. A. Murrell, and Miss E. R. Murrell for Christchurch. Mr L. J. Bethell for Wellington, and Mrs J. C. Henderson for Auckalnd. Southbound passengers by the afternoon plane included Miss V. North from Auckland. Messrs M. Kerry, W. Hill, and Miss P. M. Dwelly from Wellington, and Messrs D. M. Patrick and H. C. Pirn from Christchurch.
