School Jubilee There . was a good attendance of ex-pupils of the Tapanui District High School at a meeting held for the purpose of making arrangements for the seventieth anniversary celebrations to be held on December 9, 10 and 11. Hay were appointed a committee to arrange for suitable dates to have particulars of the jubilee announced over the air. After discussion, it was agreed that the following programme be approved:— Friday.—Assemble at the school at 1 p.m., parade, addresses, photographs and afternoon tea. Evening: Grand ball, at 8.15. Saturday.—Assemble at the school at 10 a.m.. motor drive through the district until 12.30, lunch at 1 o'clock. Grand concert in the evening. Sunday.—Church parade. It was agreed that invitations be sent to the following:—The Minister of Education (Mr P. Fraser), the members of Parliament for Mataura, Central Otago and Clutha, members of the Otago Education Board, exteachers, and members of the Borough Council and neighbouring local bodies. Bowling

The opening of the bowling season, which took place on Saturday, was marred by wet weather. There was a good attendance of members of both ladies’ and men’s sections, as well as visitors from Heriot. Dr W. Robertson (president), in declaring the season open, expressed pleasure at seeing such a large attendance, He asked Mrs G. Brooke (president of the ladies' section) to roll the first bowl. A game was commenced between teams selected by the president and the vicepresident, but. owing to heavy rain, it had to be abandoned. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies.

Cricket The initial match of the season was played in showery weather on Saturday, and just before 5 p.m. had to be abandoned on account of a hailstorm. Gore won the toss and batted, and for the loss of six wickets made 193 (Macara 120 not out, Kerr 23. Currie 16). Tapanui’s most successful bowler was Robinson, who took four wickets for 56 runs.
