OTAGO CHESS CLUB
TELEGRAPHIC MATCH The monthly committee meeting of the Otago Chess Club was held on Saturday evening. Mr J. F. Lang, senior vice-president, occupied the chair during the absence of Dr Bennet, and the following were present: Messrs O. Balk, J, C. McAnsh, J. S. M. Lawson. P Matheson. W. Lang, Dr E, J. Rawnsley and W. Herbert, secretary. The Match Committee reported thar the results to date from the Adjudication Board in Auckland gave the Otago team a win, and that the club had therefore succeeded in retaining the Bledisloe Cup for the season. A congratulatory telesram from Mr F KKelling, of Wellington, was acknowledged with pleasure. . It was decided that on September 1? the club would celebrate the retaining of the cup by a social evening to which members of the Oamaru Chess Club and the' newly-formed Alexandra Chess Club would be invited. If the /isitorc were able to accept the invitation a match would be played between them and a team representing the club ana on the conclusion of the match the cup would be presented to the captain ot the Otago team, and the remainder o the evening devoted to entertainment Mr W. Lang reported that the tuition class would be recommenced on Tues day and that he would control it dur ing Dr Rennet’s absence on holiday
